In 2021, interior designer Max Humphrey and photographer Rob Schanz (and their other photographer buddy David Tsay) began a road trip that took them through 10 rustic National Park lodges in all their airy, timeworn splendor, resulting in a coffee table book called Lodge: An Indoorsy Tour Of America’s National Parks. During their trip, from El Tovar at the Grand Canyon’s south rim to Glacier National Park's monumental Lake McDonald Lodge and points between, they’d make side-of-the-road pour-overs with a hand grinder and portable kettle and whatever fresh beans they could find. Following the release of Lodge, they wanted to bring the flavor of the National Parks home in the form of a road trip-inspired coffee brand.

They partnered with Portland, OR-based Coava Coffee on their first roast, the “are we there yet?” blend. This is a phrase familiar to anyone who’s been stuck in the car with friends or family, but road trips, like good coffee, take time. So sit down and buckle up, or else I'll turn this car around.

No historic photos here; the images of the architecture and interiors are as they look today, highlighting these storied places in a fresh, alluring way. They write about the buildings themselves in terms of the historical goings-on at the time, why they were built, and the players involved, highlighting notable architectural moments and period-specific furnishings. About Us

Max Humphrey is a Portland, Oregon-based interior designer and author. His trademark lived-in, layered look has earned accolades, including being named a "Next Wave" designer by House Beautiful and one of Country Living’s 100 most creative people. His first coffee table book, Modern Americana, was released in 2021, and his latest book, Lodge: An Indoorsy Tour of America’s National Park, came out in Spring 2023.

Rob Schanz is a San Francisco based photographer with a focus on fashion, sports, travel & adventure. His clients include The North Face, ASICS, Soar, Tracksmith, Uber, Huckberry, Stanley, and The New York Times.
